How to measure a battery safely

Use clean calipers to narrow the catalog, then confirm the marking, voltage and terminal layout.

Prepare the cell

Remove the battery with the device powered off. Keep metal tools from bridging the positive and negative terminals.

Measure the envelope

For a round cell, record maximum diameter and height. For a pack, record width, depth, height and the terminal arrangement.

Treat size as a filter

Measurements can identify candidates, but they cannot prove chemistry, voltage, rechargeable status or safe device compatibility.

Decision boundary

This guide narrows a battery decision but does not override the device manufacturer’s current manual or safety instructions.
