Replacement decision
Resolve the original marking to this profile, then confirm nominal voltage, chemistry, dimensions, polarity and any drain or terminal suffix. Capacity alone does not establish interchangeability.
Exact equivalents and aliases
AAA is the canonical 1.5 V alkaline cylindrical profile measuring 10.5 × 44.5 mm. LR03, 24A and MN2400 are reviewed aliases. HR03 has the same listed envelope but is a 1.2 V NiMH rechargeable profile.
LR03, 24A and MN2400 resolve to AAA in the normalized dataset. The name “triple-A” identifies the household size family, while the chemistry and voltage fields still need to match the device.
| Marking | Catalog profile | Voltage | Chemistry | Dimensions | Decision |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AAA / LR03 / 24A / MN2400 | AAA · Alkaline | 1.5 V | Alkaline manganese dioxide | 10.5 × 44.5 mm | Exact alias / canonical profile Resolves to AAA; verify polarity and the device marking.
|
| HR03 | HR03 · NiMH | 1.2 V | Nickel-metal hydride | 10.5 × 44.5 mm | Same size · different voltage Use the exact voltage and battery system specified by the device manufacturer.

Conditional substitutes
HR03 is a same-size rechargeable comparison, not an exact AAA alias. A device designed for a 1.5 V primary cell must explicitly support the 1.2 V NiMH system and its charging arrangement before that substitution is considered.
Physical fit is not electrical compatibility
The 10.5 × 44.5 mm dimensions narrow the candidate list, but they do not answer whether the device accepts a lower nominal voltage or rechargeable cells. Never infer that from the shared AAA-sized case.
How to verify before replacing AAA
- Record the complete marking: AAA, LR03, 24A or MN2400.
- Check whether the device specifies primary alkaline or rechargeable NiMH cells.
- Match polarity and the complete compartment layout before fitting a candidate.

Same-size batteries to review carefully
These profiles share the nominal physical envelope. They are not automatically equivalent.
