Replacement decision
Resolve the original marking to this profile, then confirm nominal voltage, chemistry, dimensions, polarity and any drain or terminal suffix. Capacity alone does not establish interchangeability.
Exact equivalents and aliases
LR754 is the canonical 1.5 V alkaline button-cell profile. AG5 is a reviewed alias. The same 7.9 × 5.4 mm envelope is also used by 309 and 393 silver-oxide profiles, but those are not exact chemistry aliases.
The normalized catalog resolves AG5 to LR754. Search the complete marking first; a bare 754 can omit the chemistry and drain information that separates LR754 from SR754 variants.
| Marking | Catalog profile | Voltage | Chemistry | Dimensions | Decision |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LR754 / AG5 | LR754 · Alkaline | 1.5 V | Alkaline manganese dioxide | 7.9 × 5.4 mm | Exact alias / canonical profile Resolves to LR754; verify polarity and the device marking.
|
| 309 | 309 · Silver oxide | 1.55 V | Silver oxide | 7.9 × 5.4 mm | Same fit · different chemistry Use only when the device maker explicitly approves both chemistry systems.
|
| 393 | 393 · Silver oxide | 1.55 V | Silver oxide | 7.9 × 5.4 mm | Same fit · different chemistry Use only when the device maker explicitly approves both chemistry systems.

Conditional substitutes
309 (SR754SW) and 393 (SR754W) share the listed diameter and height with LR754, while their chemistry and nominal voltage differ. Treat them as same-size comparisons, not automatic replacements; the device maker’s specification controls.
Physical fit is not electrical compatibility
All three profiles can look interchangeable at the compartment level because the envelope is the same. That only answers the physical-fit question. It does not establish the expected voltage curve, drain behavior or service life.
How to verify before replacing LR754
- Resolve AG5 to LR754 before comparing other 754 markings.
- Check the required chemistry and drain suffix in the device documentation.
- If the cell is a watch or instrument, verify whether the application calls for the W or SW silver-oxide profile.

Same-size batteries to review carefully
These profiles share the nominal physical envelope. They are not automatically equivalent.
